About the Workshop
The wood workshop is located at Mariannenstrasse.6 in Kreuzberg. It is an association that has existed for 30 years and was called Schokowerkstatt. This place should be a place where women, lesbians, trans, inter and queer people feel comfortable to learn carpentry and building together with us, to use different tools and machines and to learn from each other. Our main interest in the workshop is to have a place where people with different craft skills, electrical skills, working with glass, building walls, carpentry can meet to share this knowledge with each other and to enable an intersectional exchange. We are always open to new people who want to participate in the workshop, organize workshops and contribute their own ideas.
Our vision for the space
The workshop is located on the 1st floor, without an elevator and is therefore unfortunately not accessible for people in wheelchairs. The housing cooperative has been trying for years to get permission to build an elevator, but unfortunately has not yet been successful due to building regulations. But we are still working on it.
We are a queer collective of five carpenters and one architect. Our journey began seven years ago on an LGBTIQ construction site in France, where we quickly came together and envisioned forming a collective to work together and support each other in this predominantly patriarchal field of work. Three years ago, we were lucky enough to take over the workshop at Schokofabrik Kreuzberg. Since then, some members have left the collective and new ones have joined. Each of us brings our own skills that allow us to learn from each other and grow together.
